Decorative Candle Care & Usage

Our decorative candles are designed to be visually stunning – the sculptural shapes, the cold throw, the way they sit in a space. Because of their irregular forms, they won't burn as evenly or as long as a standard jar candle, which is perfectly normal. They're made to be displayed just as much as they're made to be lit.

If you do choose to burn them, place them on a heat-resistant dish and keep them away from children and pets.

Before Burning

Allow the candle to cure for at least 2 weeks from the creation date noted on the packaging; this makes a noticeable difference to the quality of the burn.

Trim the wick to 0.6 cm before every burn. A wick that's too long will flicker, produce soot, and burn unevenly.

During Burning

Wax has memory, so the first burn sets the tone. Let the melt pool reach the edges of the candle before extinguishing; this typically takes 1 to 4 hours, depending on size. Cutting it short can cause tunnelling, where the wax sinks in the centre and the sides go to waste.

As a general guide, allow one hour of burn time per inch of diameter. A 3-inch candle, for example, should burn for at least 3 hours. Try not to exceed 4 hours in a single session.

Due to their sculptural shapes, some uneven melting is expected and completely normal.

After Burning

Extinguish with a snuffer rather than blowing out the flame, which can cause hot wax to splatter. Let the wax cool and solidify completely before relighting.

If Tunnelling Occurs

Wrap the top of the candle loosely in aluminium foil, leaving a small opening above the flame. The retained heat will gradually melt the wax surface back to an even level.

Storage

Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, which can fade the fragrance and cause warping over time.
